Voyager Station: World's First Space Hotel

By 2027, space and travel enthusiasts can literally have an ‘out of the world’ experience as the world’s first space hotel will soon be a reality! Space travel will no longer be limited to just astronauts but even common man will be able to set his foot on the interstellar hotel.

Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC), the group behind the ambitious project, has announced to begin building the hotel in 2025 in low Earth orbit. If all goes according to plan, the resort will be operational by 2027.

The one of its kind hotel named ‘Voyager Station’, features individual pods that are attached to a Ferris-wheel like contraption. Guests can enjoy a number of amenities aboard the cosmic resort, including cinema, gymnasium, health spa, themed restaurants, bar, libraries and even concert venues. Since the hotel is expected to be in low Earth orbit, the guests can view Earth from the restaurants and rooms that can accommodate up to 400 guests. Additional facilities like air, water & power systems, crew quarters will also take up some space. In case of emergency, the station will be equipped with 44 Emergency Return Vehicles (ERV) with automated flight controls for autonomous landing.

The first commercial space station resembles a giant rotating wheel with artificial gravity. “Voyager Station is a rotating space station designed to produce varying levels of artificial gravity by increasing or decreasing the rate of rotation. Artificial, or simulated, gravity is essential to long term habitation in space”, explains the official site for Voyager station. So guests will be able to carry out all the activities on the space hotel just like they do on Earth.

The hotel will have a Habitation ring, where a series of pressurised modules will be placed. These modules will come in a variety of configurations where privately owned modules will be used for villas, hotels, commercial activities, and the government owned modules will be used for scientific research, training and staging facilities.

“The concept of Voyager was ideated in 2012 with the launch of the Gateway Foundation which established OAC in 2018 to realise the dream of building the first commercial hotel in space.” said Indian Express.

Quoting John Binclow, founder of Gateway Foundation, “This will be the next Industrial Revolution”.
