Grab a glass of wine as we dazzle you with the health benefits associated with it.
Made from crushed dark grapes, red wine is rich in antioxidants like resveratrol, epicatechin, catechin, and proanthocyanidins. Resveratrol, found in grape skin, controls your cholesterol levels, blood sugar level in diabetic persons and reduces oxidative stress. It also has a positive effect on the hippocampus, part of the brain vital to memory, learning and mood. Want to have a strong memory and good mood in your old age? You know just the right drink!
Polyphenols, another antioxidant in red wine, prevent unwanted clotting in blood and keep your heart healthy, and also reduce inflammation. Drinking wine reduces the risk of strokes and early death by retaining good HDL cholesterol in blood. It also keeps away diseases like certain cancers- colon, basal cell, ovary and prostate cancers, and type 2 diabetes. Studies have found out that drinking 2-7 glasses of wine per week reduces the risk of depression.
But all these health benefits come with moderate consumption of wine. Research has found the optimal drinking to be 1 glass (150 ml) of drink per day for women and 2 glasses (300 ml) for men. If consumed in excess, it could cause serious health problems like heart problems, fatty liver disease, liver damage, certain cancers to name a few.
Happy drinking!
